EVENT INFORMATION SHEET
The event is being held at the National Sports Centre, Douglas, Isle of Man.
Registration for the Centurion 100 mile/24 hour walk and 20 mile Starlight Stroll, will be on Friday 18 August 2006 between 6pm and 8.30pm at Manx Harriers Club House. Competitors who are unable to collect numbers on Friday can pick them up at Manx Harriers Club House on Saturday 19 August between 10am and 12 noon.
The start for the Centurion 100 Mile Walk and the 20 Mile Starlight Stroll will be on the outer perimeter road at the National Sports Centre and will be clearly marked. The finish for both events will be opposite the grandstand on the inner tartan track.
The course for the 100 mile walk will be 131 laps plus 682 yards around a tartan track then onto a tarmac surface. Each lap will be a distance of approximately ¾ mile per lap and has been officially measured by a qualified measurer. The 20 Mile Starlight Stroll will be 26 laps plus 404 yards.
The sports centre will be closed to all vehicular traffic. However, the area will be open to the public for the duration of the event. Marshals will endeavour to protect competitors but we do ask athletes to be tolerant towards the public.
Competitors for the Centurion 100mile/24 hour walk will receive two numbers which must be worn on the back and front of the outer garment and be visible at all times. Competitors taking part in the National RWA Centurion 100 Mile Walk must wear club vests.
The Risk Assessment on the back of the number(s) must be completed before commencement of the race. First Aiders will be in attendance for the duration of the event. The Police have been informed and will be in attendance during the weekend.
Parking will not be permitted at the sports centre. There is a PAY AND DISPLAY car park at Pulrose Bridge at a cost of £1 for 24 hours. Competitors with tents will be allowed to pitch them on the grassed area of the inner track. Vehicles will not be allowed in this area. Those wishing to erect tents must do so on Saturday 19 August before 12 noon. Please note this is not a camping area and is allocated specifically for competitors, seconds and officials. Competitors taking part in the 20 mile Starlight Stroll must be at the start line a few minutes before the 10pm start. Please be aware of the Centurion ‘100 mile’ walk in progress.
IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL COMPETITORS
ALL COMPETITORS FOR THE CENTURION 100 MILE WALK AND THE 20 MILE STARLIGHT STROLL WILL BE ISSUED WITH AN ELECTRONIC CHIP AT REGISTRATION. PLEASE FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY. ON FINISHING THE EVENT PLEASE ENSURE THE CHIP IS RETURNED TO THE ORGANISERS. THOSE NOT COMPLETING THE DISTANCE MUST IMMEDIATELY RETURN TO THE FINISH AREA WHERE A MARSHAL WILL REMOVE THE CHIP. PLEASE ENSURE YOU DO NOT WALK OVER THE FINISHING MAT ONCE YOU HAVE STOPPED. FAILURE TO RETURN THE CHIP WILL RESULT IN YOU (THE COMPETITOR) BEING CHARGED FOR THE COST OF THE ELECTRONIC CHIP.
The feeding station will be located at Manx Harriers Club House and the adjudicating area will be located on the inner track. There will be a variety of food and drink for competitors only. Special requirements should be provided by the athlete and must be clearly marked with name and number. The feeding station will be manned by volunteers who will give out refreshments during the event. Only officials and athletes seconds are allowed to feed the competitors at the official feeding station.
There are 2 cafés situated near the NSC where you can purchase food and drink.
Changing rooms and shower facilities will be available at the NSC. The toilet is situated around the track which will be clearly marked. There will be sports masseurs available for competitors opposite the grandstand area during the course of the event.
A light buffet will be available at the prize presentation which will be held at the sports centre directly after the event where trophies will be awarded in accordance with the RWA and Centurion Regulations.
